Coex Aquarium, Gangnam District, Seoul, South Korea
Trip to South Korea – Part 4: The Beauty Inside
The Coex Aquarium is located inside the Coex Mall in the now famous Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea. According to online sources, the aquarium is one of South Korea’s largest. Due to its size, it is able to house over 40,000 creatures from more than 650 species.
Although pictures could never do this place justice, we wanted to share them to provide a glance at the wonders we encountered within.

Upon entering the aquarium, one feels immediately transported into a different world. The expansive underground location is divided into several areas.

The massive main tank is large enough to accommodate a wide array of big and small ocean creatures alike. These include several sharks, various types of fish, and turtles.
Several seating areas invite visitors to take a break, or simply stay a while to observe the magnificent ocean creatures.

The Coex Aquarium aims at both entertaining and educating. Therefor several displays are accessible to visitors to get up close with some of its inhabitants.
Holding this starfish in my hand was so amazing!

We admired the different and creative ways used to provide homes for the smaller fish, like this full size phonebooth, among others. It sure adds a special touch to the experience.

As seen below, the Coex aquarium is not only home to water creatures but also species found on dry land.
We will not bore you with much written content on this post since we believe the visual tells the story so much better.

If you – like us – are a fan of the drama ‘I hear your voice’, these tunnels going through the main aquarium will look familiar to you. This is where its main characters, portrayed by Lee Jong-Suk and Lee Bo-Young, shared their first kiss.
So, if you ever find yourself in Seoul, we highly recommend you to set aside at least half a day to pay a visit to Coex Aquarium.
Give yourself plenty of time for this excursion in order to truly enjoy it. It took us about three hours to complete our walk through the entire aquarium, but we could have easily spend more time in there.

Have you ever been to the Coex Aquarium? If so, we would love to hear about your experience in the comments.
Until we travel again,
